Fajki Ridge

Location

Fajki Ridge is very well visible when standing by Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy (the lake) or from the Kościelec peak. Its characteristic gendarmes - little granit needles along the ridge- makes it interesting climbing choice. Despite long approach (3-4 hours), it is definitely worth the hassle.

Climbing and timing

The ridge itself is horizontal and requires many climbing techniques including some down climbing.

Excursion starts with 2 hour trek to Hala Gąsienicowa, where we usually stop for a short break in the mountain hut Murowaniec. Once rested, we continue to approach using a signed path towards Skrajny Granat peak. At the point, where the chain section of Skrajny Granat path starts, we go left and gain for Żółta Przełęcz (saddle), where the ridge climb starts. It usually takes no more then 2 hours of climbing to complete the whole arete, finishing with short abseil towards Pańszczycka Przełączka (small saddle). From this point, we need around half an hour to get back to the signed path, and another 2-3 hours to trek back to Zakopane.

Whole outing lasts about 8-10 hours.
